Bolgatanga is the capital of Upper East Ghana. Some of the Bolgatanga Travel Tips are given below.Ghana is considered a safe country and it is good to have plain US dollars, than travelers cheques. This is because travelers cheques can be difficult to change and also the rate given is quite bad. It is not recommended to pay through plastic card as it becomes expensive as charging is done in dollars while they give a bad rate from cedes to dollars. One loses around 15% while using credit cards.
There is a good selection of net cafes, which are cheaper than those in Burkino Faso. But the speed is not up to the mark. Often, a single room is shared by a roomful of computers. The best idea is to keep going at the place which you find reliable. Ask before sitting down at a terminal as the Ghanaian net cafe owners are ready to fleece the foreigners.
The share taxi service is quite cheap and these are also easily available. The taxis pick you up from any one spot in the town and can drop you within the town itself. The trip to Mole National Park is a long and painful trip. As the bus tickets are sold out early, one has to rely on the tro-tros. But the journey is worth going as Mole is an excellent place to visit. Take a handkerchief with you to wrap around your face to protect yourself from dust.
A nice village exists near Bolgatanga, called Sirigou, where one can find decorated huts. Pay a little more to get to this village. Near this village is a building from where you can buy good pottery. This place has been created by an organization called SWOPA, who encourages the women of the village to do their business. It takes an hour to reach Sirigou. One can also see it while going to Paga.
