Bolagatanga is the last major town before the border with Burkina Fasso. Getting to Bolgatanga is easy as there are numerous ways and means by which you can reach the place.
Getting to Bolgatanga - Air
The airfield at Bolgatanga is the Kotaka Internatinal Airport in Accra. There are direct flights to this airport from New York on the North Amernican Airlines. During summer, there are 2 flights a week while in winter, there are 1 flight available. From Europe, there are direct flights which include British Airways from London, KLM Airlines from Amsterdam, Alitalia from Rome and Lufthansa from Frankfurt. The national carrier is the Ghana Airway which flies to Rome, London and Düsseldorf.
There are many regional airlines, including Ghana Airways which link Ghana to the rest of Africa. Among these are Air Ivoire, Ethiopian Airways and South African Airways.
Getting to Bolgatanga - land
Bolgatanga is a friendly town and there are regular bus services with Kumasi and Accra. Good bus services are available and a bank exists for changing travelers cheques. There are regular buses by the vanefSTC which take one to the borders of all the three countries which are Togo, Burkino Faso and Cote d'Ivorie (Ivory Coast). Among the good places to stay are Cpmme Ci Comme C and Air Con. ALso avialabe are Catholic mission, where one can stay for a cause.
A special thing about Bolgatanga is that the village are painted with the most vibrant colors. But this trend is slowly changing. One can see the best painted houses at Vopac, which is just 5 miles away from Bolga on the path to Navrongo. A guest house exists where you can stay and experience the true African family life. The money that is earned from the guest house goes to the local community.
