Festivals in Ghana includes several rites and rituals which are performed throughout the year in different regions of the country.Some of the rites and rituals are related to child-birth, rights of passage, puberty, marriage and death.

The word Homowo means "hooting at hunger".This festival is celebrated in the memory of the famine which occurred long time back in the Accra plains.During this time there was practically no rainfall and lack of sea water led to a disastrous famine.Many people died due to hunger.Later on when food became plentiful, the people celebrated the event.
