The Cape Coast Castle, Cape Coast is the fortification which is situated at the Ghana. The Cape Coast Castle is one of the major tourist attractions in Cape Coast. The Cape Coast Castle, Cape Coast was also known as Carolusborg. It was so called in honor of the King Charles X of Sweden. However, the timber construction was reconstructed in stone.
The Danes had captured the Swedish Gold Coast in the year 1663 in the month of April. It was in the year 1664 that the British conquered the Castle. Later the castle was reestablished by Committee of Merchants during the 18th century. Later, it emerged as the seat of colonial Government in the British Gold Coast in the year 1844.
The Cape Coast Castle, Cape Coast was constructed to act as the storehouse of keeping gold and timber. It was in the year 1957 that The Cape Coast Castle, Cape Coast came under the administration of Ghana Museums and Monuments Board. It was during the 1990s that the building was refurbished to the Government of Ghana. Funds were contributed by United Nations Development Programme and Smithsonian Institution as well as several non governmental organizations had contributed for the restoration of the building. The Cape Coast Castle, Cape Coast also served as the main hub of trans-Atlantic slave trade.
