The Museum of Asian Art in Corfu Island is very unique in Greece. The museum is housed in the St. Michael and St. George Palace. There is a collection of more than thousand pieces that dates back from the Neolithic Age to the 19th century. The most important part of the exhibits found in the museum, comes from the private collection of Grigorios Manos, who was a Greek diplomat. The collection had around 10, 000 pieces that he donated to the state of Greek in the year 1928. The collection got a huge boost in the year 1974 when it got a donation from N. Chatzivasiliou, a Greek ambassador and two diplomats P. Almanachou and I. Siniosoglou.
There is a very good Chinese collection in this museum. The collection has got variety of art items that belong to the Shang period. There are items from the Shun dynasty as well. The museum has got variety of funerary offerings, bronze vessels, bronze ware that belonged to the Ming and the Sung dynasties. Apart from these items there are many seals, coins, paintings and many other objects made out of semi-precious stones. There are some costume fabrics and furniture fabrics of the same period.
The museum also has a variety of Japanese collection. This museum contains Neolithic arms and tools, ceramic statues, wooden masks along with the miniatures, suits of the Samurai knights, amours and various types of silk fabrics. There are interesting art items in the Museum of Asian Art, Corfu Island that are brought from Nepal, Thailand, Tibet, Pakistan, Korea and India as well.
