Agora, Corinth
The Agora was an open place of assembly. In ancient Greece males citizens of Corinth would congregate in the agora for military duty. They also assembled here to hear the speeches of the ruling king or council. In the later part of Greek history, the agora was transformed into a market place, where merchants kept stalls or shops to sell their goods under colonnades. The Agora of Corinth was located close to the temple of Apollo. In the middle of the agora of Corinth there was a platform for public addresses. A large statue of Athena also stood here.

In the Agora a platform was built alongside the public square in Corinth and is popularly known as a bema in Greek. From here the Roman governor would address the crowds who gathered in the city’s central district. The platform was also popular as a "judgment seat," since rulers often delivered judgments from the pedestal.As a platform for public addresses that stood in the forum of Greek cities the bema was an important and significant part of Greece history. The bema of Corinth was built of blue and white marble.
