Location
This mosque is located in close proximity to Ipokratous Square. In fact, if you walk down Panetiou Street, which is just opposite the Grand Masters palace, you'll pass by the Turkish Library which is on the right, followed by the Mosque of Suleiman, which is at the foot of the hill. The mosque is also located near the old Turkish Bazaar and clock tower.
History
This pink mosque was constructed in 1522 when the Turks took over Rhodes. It was built on the site of the devastated Christian Church of the Apostles. The building was founded as a sign of victory of the Sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent who defeated the Knights. It stands in a courtyard that is surrounded by trees. In 1808 it was rebuilt. The material used here was the same that was used in making the original mosque. Its minaret leans at an angle even today.
