Joao Vieira e Poilao Marine National Park includes both, a large area of land and water. The land area on which the park is based on covers 495 square kilometers.
The park is located in the south-western part of archipelago of Bijagos. It has a wide reputation as the most important nesting location for the marine green turtles. Here, you will find 3 species of turtles visiting the park mostly. These species include Chelonia Myda, Eretmochelys Imbricata and Lepidochelys olivacea.
Rio Cacheu, Guinea Bissau:
Rio Cacheu Mangroves Natural Park is situated on the northernmost part of the rivers, which bifurcates Guinea Bissau. The lands lying on both sides of the river are included in the park. The area belonging to the northern side of the park is blessed with one of the most extensive sites of mangroves in the country. These mangroves are known as the breeding areas of fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
