The Administration of the region has spent $117.3 billion in 2006 to promote tourism in Hong Kong. In 2006 Hong Kong saw visitor arrivals increased by 8.1% to 25.25 million which made it the best-performing market region in 2006.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board or HKTB is authority responsible for promoting tourism in Hong Kong, the board makes combo and multi-destination itinerates to make the region a popular tourist destination. The average occupancy rate across the administration in all categories of hotels, motels and guesthouses was about 87% through out the year.
Tourism Commission was established in May 1999 to coordinate with government and develop tourism in Hong Kong. The Commission aims to establish Hong Kong a world-class tourist destination. Over the years many landmarks and tourist attractions have been developed to increase the inflow of tourists to the region.
Hong Kong has a diversified range of attractions that promotes the region as a premier tourist destination. Numerous enhancement projects are also being carried out to give a increase attractiveness of the existing popular tourist areas. Sai Kung waterfront and Lei Yue Mun Improvement Project have been completed. Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and Stanley waterfront are also being given a facelift. These improvement and face-lifting projects will surely cause a boom in Hong Kong tourism.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board and Tourism Commission also organize many tours like culture tours so that tourism in Hong Kong flourishes. A campaign "Hong Kong - Live it, Love it!" has also been launched to attract both leisure as well as business travelers.
