The Po Lin Monastery, Hong Kong is a monastery which is located on western Lantau Island. The attraction is also lovingly called the Buddhist Kingdom in the South.

According to a popular legend the Po Lin Monastery, Hong Kong was originally built in 1920 by three monks as the only a shrine dedicated to Buddha. In the year1924, the attraction was renamed as 'Po Lin Monastery' and numerous monks settled here.
From 1930s, Po Lin Monastery, Hong Kong has been continuously expanding with additional larger halls and temples added to it. In the 1970s, the religious spot became one of the top 10 Buddhist monasteries in Hong Kong.
The main building of Po Lin Monastery, Hong Kong has simple decorations, at the gate visitors can see a copper statue of Sakyamuni - Tian Tan Buddha, which boasts to be largest outdoor Buddha statue in the world. The statue depicts Buddha in a mediating position, the statue is 34 meters tall and was completed in 1993.
Po Lin (Precious Lotus) Monastery, Hong Kong is also home to a three-story exhibition hall which hosts a big bell. You can also walk 268 steps to a tiny museum that exhibits numerous elegant relics.
