Bridges in Budapest

Traveler on a trip of Budapest cannot exclude the Bridges in Budapest from their list of sightseeing places in Budapest. There are many bridges in this city that are not only beautiful constructions but are also are part of the history of this country. They also offer good panoramic view to the tourists. That is why no one can ignore the attraction of the Bridges in Budapest.

Among the Bridges in Budapest one can name the likes of Liberty Bridge, Elizabeth Bridge and the Chain Bridge. Though there are many other bridges here these are the most important ones of the lot. All of these bridges provide fascinating views of the Danube. It is a historically famous river that has seen the heydays of the Roman Empires.

The Liberty Bridge was built in the year 1894. However, it was two years later, in 1896 that it became operational. The inauguration of the place was done by the then Emperor Franz Joseph. The bridge can be recognized from miles due to the presence of the Turul Birds on both its pillars. These are mythical birds that have also found their place in the coat of arms of the country. The bridge like many other bridges in Budapest was built of steel.

Your next stop can be the Chain Bridge. As the name suggests, it is one of the major suspension bridges in Budapest. The bridge was designed by a Britisher and his name was T W Clark. The construction of the bridge was complete in the year 1849. Thanks to this bridge that the two parts of the city, Buda and Pest were joined thus giving the capital its present name. The total length of the bridge is 380 meters.

The Elizabeth Bridge is another very good bridge that can be reached from any part of the city. The bridge was built in the beginning of the 20th century. It was in 1903. It is a bridge that is 290 meters long. Today this length may not seem that much of an importance but at the time of its construction it was the longest suspension bridge that was ever built. How time changes!

Travelers can also go to see some other Bridges of Budapest. These are Kossuth Bridge, Petofi Bridge, Margaret Bridge that connects the Margaret Island with the city and Arpad Bridge. All these are parts of tourist attraction sin Budapest.
