Military History Museum, Budapest is one of the major Tourist Attractions in Budapest. Housed in former municipal army barracks, this museum was opened to the public in 1937 and restored after World War II. The museum boasts of an extensive collection of weaponry and war memorabilia across its two main floors. The Military History Museum in Budapest features permanent collections covering the 1848 revolution and War of Independence, both World Wars and the 1956 uprising. The exhibits on the ground floor lining the museum's corridors, include shells of different calibers and sizes while above, you will find images of engineers building pontoon bridges, soldiers hauling gun carriages and weary infantry men in the trenches.

You will find there are two lovely stain glass windows on the staircase leading to the first floor of the Military History Museum, Budapest. These windows depict Buda in 1493 and Budavár Bevetele in 1849. If you turn right, you will find exhibits on military history during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Also, there are uniforms worn by the Hungarian Hussar regiment. Among the other exhibits of the museum, you will also find large display cases which feature models and battle scenes from World War II. This collection also contains an interesting addition of a Huey helicopter like one of those used in Vietnam.

There are displays devoted to the tragic events of the 1956 uprising. Feel that sense of poignancy inside as you view these exhibits. Check out the WW2 American helmet which is kept in a clear glass case on the ground floor landing. A slot has been cut in the top so that visitors can make a donation to the museum. The entrance to the Military History Museum, Budapest, is from the promenade of Tóth árpád sétány and it has an excellent lookout over Buda's western suburbs.
