Eger Former Lyceum, Eger is one of the finest tourist attractions in Eger. Located in the Eger valley on the southern slopes of the Bukk Mountains, Eger offers a getaway to northern Hungary. Eger Former Lyceum, Eger stands opposite the Cathedral, on Szabadszág tér. It is now the site for teachers' training college. It is a landmark building in Eger and dominates the square area of the historic city. It is built around a rectangular inner courtyard and the architectural style stands out as a fine example of the architectural brilliance existent in ancient times. The building is a fine example of the plait style present in the 18th century.

Bishop Károly Eszterházy initially intended the building of Eger Former Lyceum to be built as a Catholic university. He initially instructed F.A. Pilgram and J.I. Gerl to make plans to build it as a university. The construction of building was complete in 1765 and Jakob Fellner, the Eszterházys' architect decided it to be designed as an educational university rather than a church university of any kind. So going by the situation at that time, an educational establishment was constructed and it was ranked as a lyceum, or lecture hall.

The entrance area of Eger Former Lyceum is located opposite the Cathedral. On the first floor above the entrance there is a banquet-hall, decorated with frescos by the Baroque artist Franz Sigrist. You can also see the other fascinating sections of the building. In the east wing is the Observatory dominated by its revolving dome and an Astronomical Museum.
