Reformed Church, Miskolc

Reformed Church, Miskolc is a picturesque Romanesque church located in the downtown area. The church is regarded as one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Miskolc which can be adorned by the international travelers. The popular place is regarded as a treasure and an ancient site of Hungary. After facing various attacks, Reformed Church, Miskolc remains a historical instance in the city.

The church was formerly a single-nave cathedral but after many years it was reconstructed as a three-nave Gothic hall church. At the initial stage of its structure the church was a simple looking Roman cathedral church in 13th Century. Under the rule of Turkish administration, the city faced many attacks from the outsiders and due to that reason the church was completely destroyed by fire. It was left as a burnt structure for two decades.

After many years, the church was again gone through a huge reconstruction and renovation and was given the final structure as it now looks like. There were pillars in the previous structure, which were transformed as big squares supported by wooden ceiling and semi-circular arcades.

One of the important features of this Romanesque architecture is the Renaissance 'Royal Stall', built in 15th-century and complemented with fine architectural work. Most of the stones were supposed to be brought from the Diósgyor Castle. The wall placed on the southern direction of the church is decorated with spire caps and weathercocks from 17th and 18th Century. There is a black seat which was used for giving justice to the criminals and now placed as an important accessory for the visitor's observation.

The interiors are done with the architectural specialties from the Protestant churches. The church looks wonderful from both inside and outside. Visitors from various parts of the world come to visit the site.
