Jharkhand is situated in the eastern part of India. It was on the 15th November in the year 2000 that Jharkhand was separated from the southern part of Bihar. Jharkhand is so called, inspired by shrubs, meaning the land of ‘Jhari’ or shrubs.

Jharkhand is on the Chota Nagpur Plateau. It is the source of the Kharkai, Damodar, Koel and Subarnarekha rivers. The region has a rich variety of flora and fauna. There are a number of National Parks and Zoological Gardens in the state of Jharkhand.

What to see in Jharkhand:

The state of Jharkhand is a nature lover's paradise. It is home to countless waterfalls, like the Hundru Falls, Lodh Falls and Johna Falls, where you can spend a day in peace and quiet surroundings. On this tour you can visit the lush green forests, national parks and some of the most popular rivers of the state.

Wildlife: The rich forestland of the Chota Nagpur plateau, including Hazaribagh National Park and Palamau Tiger Reserve are areas where you can easily spot elephants, tigers, leopards and sloth bears. Other popular national parks in the state include

  • Betla National park, rich in forest area, hills and valleys. It is at a distance of 25 Kilometers from the Daltonganj. It stretches up to an area of 250 square kilometers. There are several species of animals in the park. The animals are bisons, tigers, elephants, wild boar, sambhars, deer, foxes and rabbits. It was in the year 1974 that the park was declared the Project Tiger Reserve.
  • The Zoological Garden is situated at a distance of 16 Kilometers from the Ranchi. There are a number of mammals at the zoo.
  • The Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary is at a distance of 135 Kilometers from the Ranchi. The sanctuary is similar to the Betla National Park of the Palamu.

Temples: Parasnath is the holiest place in Jharkhand, where hundreds of devotes throng every day. The Baidyanath Dham complex of Deoghar comprises of temples, which forms an important place of worship. Baidyanath Dham is situated in the Santhal Parganas. It is the prominent pilgrimage centre. The Hindu devotees visit the temple. Other sightseeing attractions are Tagore Hill, Jagannath Temple, Kanke Dam, Panchet Dams, Urwan Tourist Complex, Rajrappa and a lot more.

Culture: The state of Jharkhand is rich in culture and tradition; there are about 30 communities that exist in the region. Some of the major tribes are Santhals, Oraons, Mundas, Kharias, Hos and Cheros.

Tourist Destinations: The other tourist places in Jharkhand include Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Betla, Deoghar, Dumka, Giridih, Netarhat and Saranda. Topchanchi Lake is situated in the midst of the hills and the forests. It is the artificial lake, which is at a distance of 37 Kilometers from Dhanbad. It is a popular picnic spot. Netarhat, at a distance 156 Kilometers from Ranchi, is a hill station. Lodh Falls is 61 Kilometers from the Netarhat. This is one of the must visit since it is the biggest water falls of Jharkhand.
