Nagaland is a hill station located in the northeastern part of India. The bordering states are Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Myanmar. The capital of Nagaland is Kohima and the largest city is Dimapur. The population of Nagaland is 2 million. With the total area stretching up to an area of 16, 579 Kilometers, Nagaland is one of the smallest states of India.

Nagaland is the region, which is rich is fauna and flora. The tropical and sub-tropical evergreen forests cover one-sixth of Nagaland. There are palms, rattan and bamboo trees in the abundance, here. There are mahogany and timber forests. A monsoon climate with high humidity levels prevails over here. The annual rainfall is 70-100 inches. There is rainfall during the months of May to September. The temperature ranges between 70 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit.

The tribes of Nagaland are Angami, Chakhesang, Ao, Lothas and several others. Christianity is considered to be the major religion of Nagaland. There are a number of churches in Nagaland. There are some of the best churches at the Dimapur, Kohima and Mokokchung. There is a number of Tourist attractions in Nagaland like Zunheboto, Mon, Tuensang and a lot more.

Nagaland is considered to be ‘The most populated Baptist state in the world’. The Christian denomination numbers include Catholics, Pentecostals and Revivalists. Hinduism and Islam are the other two religions in the state.

What to see in Nagaland

The state of Nagaland offers you many places of tourist interest; you can visit the well-known War Cemetery at Kohima, the museum of Kohima displaying an array of carvings, spears and relics. You can also visit the Se Cathedral popular for its Christmas celebrations.

Festivals: The state enjoys many festivals; all the tribes here celebrate their own distinct seasonal festivals. Among the most popular festivals is the Hornbill Festival, which takes place in the month of December.

Trekking: The Dzukou Valley, popularly called the 'Valley of Eternal Charm', with an altitude of 2,438m offers a trek route, which is one of the best in India.

Shopping: The Nagas have a rich tradition of art and craft which makes the state of Nagaland just the right place to shop at. Various forms of arts and crafts like Basketry, Weaving, Woodcarving, Pottery, and Metal work are still carried by the Nagas.
