Kerinci




Kerinci is one of the major volcanoes in Indonesia. It is the highest volcano in Indonesia and the highest peak in the province of Sumatra. It is an active volcano and still experiences eruptions. The volcano is a beautiful sight from a distance. Nature lovers undertake excursion trips to Kerinci.

Kerinci in Indonesia is located in the province of Jambi in the western part of the island of Sumatra. The volcano lies in the west coast around 130 kms in the southern part of Padang in the Barisan Mountain Range. The volcano is surrounded by the Kerinci Seblat National Park. The volcano rises up to a height of around 2,400 meters. The cone of Kerinci is around 13 km wide and 25 km long in the base. The crater is around 600 meters wide. The crater is filled with green yellow colored water.

Kerinci, Indonesia falls under the Pacific Ring of Fire and is one of the most active volcanoes in the country. The volcano experiences phreatic eruptions annually. It is stratovolcano. The volcano has experienced plenty of eruptions since its first eruptions in the year 1838. Kerinci last erupted in the year 2004. It is still engulfed by clouds of sulphurous smoke. The clouds sometimes reach to a height of 1000 meters. The first ascent to the volcano was made in the year 1877 by Von Hasselt sand since then it has become one of the main tourist destinations in the country.

The area around Kerinci in Indonesia is sparsely populated. There is a farmland in the vicinity of the volcano. A tea plantation is located in the southern slope of the place. The Kerinci Seblat National Park surrounds the volcano. The national park consists of sprawling greenery and is home to wide range of local flora and fauna.
