Tugu Pahlawan, Java

Tugu Pahlawan, Java, represents the heroic spirits of the heroes who sacrificed their lives during the independence war. Also known as the “Heroes Monument”, this has turned in to one of the major Tourist Attractions in Java. Surabaya in Java has a number of military statues, but the Tugu Pahlawan, Java is definitely the most impressive one. This tall and majestic building is an important landmark that draws millions of visitors from all corners of the world.

Tugu Pahlawan in Java has a rocket like structure that seems to point towards the moon. You can site this impressive and imposing structure in Taman Kebunrojo, opposite to the office of the East Java Governor in Jalan Pahlawan. The square on which Tugu Pahlawan in Java is located is again an amazing place that can be access easily. This huge open square has a pillar like structure in its middle. Alongside, you can also find some small museum that is dotted around the edges of the square.

Tugu Pahlawan, Java is moderately tall and rises up to 45 yards. This statue is not at all elaborately decorated and does not even boasts of its rich architecture. The simplicity of the statue seems to be a deliberate plan by the architects to suggest modest, rather than aggression and pride. The monument becomes a major point of attraction every November 10th, when the whole country celebrates "Heroes Day" to honor those heroes who died during the war of independence.

Tugu Pahlawan, Java was initially the site of the prestigious Kenpetai Building, which houses courts of the colonial justice ministry. It is said that the Japanese army used this place during the war as a detention center to inflict torture to the local people. It is even reported that this monument was bombed by the Japanese at the end of their occupation. You can still find the remnants of the building’s entrance, which stands as the backdrop for the statue of the heroes located at the southern part of the Kebunrojo Garden.
