Kalimantan Travel Tips

Kalimantan Travel Tips can be very useful for the tourists who come to visit this place. Kalimantan Travel Tips also helps them to know about the various features of the place.

Any person visiting Kalimantan for the first time should at least know a bit of Indonesian language. The tourist should also be prepared with the slow and uncomfortable transport and accommodation. But if a person can overcome this obstacles the place is ideal for a nice holiday.

Tourist Offices: The place has four tourist offices located in the four provincial capitals and is very helpful. The offices provide guide books to the tourists as well as guides so that the tourists are given proper information.

Getting there: The place can be reached by flights and ships from different parts of Indonesia while Java and Sulawesi are the two connected islands. Ships from Riau Islands are also available. The most important operator is Pelni while now days large number of other operators are also available. The tourist can cross the land border between Sarawak and West Kalimantan to reach the place while for the rest of the world flying to Jakarta is a must.

Expenditure: The place is slightly more expensive than Java or Sumatra. If a person sticks to public transport and travels alone, the tourist should not worry about the cost. Expenses can increase to a large extent if someone hires a guide or travels by the chartered boats.

Language: Unlike other parts of Indonesia, English is not a popular language spoken in this place. It is better to learn a bit of the local language while going for a tour to this place.

Position of Women: For women the place is not considered a safe place as a lot of harassing and eve teasing incidents do occur here. Hence women are not encouraged to roam during night.

Dayak culture: The place is mainly inhabited by the "Dayaks" who are the main tribes of this place. But due to the passage of time they have become more modern in their outlook and live in modern houses. In spite of this, they have managed to preserve their old traditions and culture. During traditional festivals they wear long robes and perform traditional dances.
