Adisucipto International Airport is almost 50 years old and since then it has been serving a large number of domestic flights. Located in the Sleman district of Yogyakarta Special Region, the airport is considered to be the third busiest airport in Java. The airport was previously known as Maguwo and was operating during the Second World War. It was renamed in 1949 after the death of a pilot while flying in 1947. The name of the pilot was Adisucipto after whom the airport was renamed.
Getting to Yogyakarta becomes easier mainly due to the presence of the Adisucipto International Airport from where one can get many domestic and a few international flights. International flights started to operate from 21st February, 2004 to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.
Located near the local railway station, only100 meters away, the international airport is also closely situated to some of the major tourist attraction spots in the city. After arriving at the airport, tourists can travel to the Seriba Mountain and the surrounding green areas. Other interesting places located near the airport are the Kingdom of Boko Queen, Kalasan Temple and Ljo Temple.

Some of the special features of the structure are the two statues placed near the car parking area and the unique shape of the limasan roof supported by the four columns. The passengers while waiting at the airport can have some snacks and beverages in the coffee shops and other pastry shops of the airport. There are fast food restaurants where one can get full course meal for lunch and dinner.
