Every year, the Tourist Attractions in Mashad draw tourists in large numbers to Mashad, the second largest city in Iran. Many grand Mosques, large bazaars and Mausoleums form the major Tourist Attractions in Mashad.

Mashad is the capital of the immense Province of Khorasan. Situated in the Kashaf Rud valley, a tributary of Hari Rud, between the Binalud and Hazar Masjid mountains it is a rich agricultural region. Spread over an area of 204 square kilometers, it has for centuries been an important trade centre. It has also served as a junction point on caravan routes and highways from India to Iran and from north to south between Turkistan towns and Sea of Oman

Imam Reza Holy Shrine, Mashad- After the death of Imam Reza, Ma’mum buried him in a tower in Sanabad which was next to the tomb of his own father, the famous Harun or-Rashid. Ever since, his burial place began to attract Shiite pilgrims in large numbers. Imam Reza’s tomb since ages has been lavished by the patronage and wealth of kings and princes.

Gowharshad Mosque, Mashad- This is a famous Mosque in Mashad. The 50 meter high faience dome and cavernous golden portal is located to the south of the holy shrine of Imam Reza square. Architecturally the Mosque is even more important than the mausoleum. The Mosque covers an area of 9419 square meters, and has two beautiful minarets each 40 meters high.

The Nader Shah Mausoleum, Mashad- This Mausoleum located in Shohada Street is dedicated to the legendary emperor of Iran, Nadir Shah. Set up in the year 1959, the mausoleum has a colossal bronze group representing soldiers led to battle by a commander on horseback. It is about 5 meters high and weighs 14,000 kilograms. The commander bearing a turban and a large ax represents Nader Shah.

Bazaar-e Reza, Mashad- This 800 meters long and 30 meters wide market is one of the main shopping centers in the town. The bazaar is known for the crafts of Khorasan. All kinds of local souvenirs such as fur-cloak, turquoise, carnelian ring, gold, perfume, saffron, pelisse, prayer-mat, and rosary may be found in this bazaar. Beautiful fabrics, rugs, prayer rugs, beads, nuts, spices and honey are also available. Apart from local items to a large number of foreign articles can also be found here.
