Hafez the great poet lived in Shiraz from the year 1300 to 1389. He gained popularity due to his simple and frequently discursive language. In his poems he used to portray familiar images and proverbial expressions.
According to the Iranians, the best poetry of Hafez, Ghazal is engraved on his tomb, Aramgah-e Hafez, Shiraz. The Ghazal is a 6 to 15 verse composition in which the verses are linked together by a unity of inspiration and of symbolism rather than by a logical sequence of ideas.
Hafez was born 1319 CE in Shiraz in South-Central Iran. At a very tender age, Hafez became a poet of the court of Abu Ishak. He gained much fame and influence in Shiraz.
Hafez died at the age of 70 in 1389 CE in Shiraz. After his death, his body was buried in Musalla Gardens, along the banks of Roknabad River in Shiraz, which is now called Aramgah-e Hafez, Shiraz.
