The Tehran International Film Festival is open for both international film as well as the national films. There are other awards as well like the awards given in the Asian-Pacific Competition, the Questling the Truth and also on the films about Islam.
The Fajr International Film Festival has various categories including the short films, documentaries and feature films. The events which are a part of this festival is the main competition, the special screenings, the Festival of Festivals and the retrospectives organized to bring forth the talents of the famous film-makers. The main requirement for the Fajr International Film Festival is 35mm and 16mm films which have been produced in the course of the 3 years before the festival. One of the main criteria is that the films must not have been showed in Tehran before the festival. The films must have English or French subtitles if they are not in English or French. The much coveted awards which are given are- the Crystal Simorgh Prizes for the best director, best feature film, best performance, the best script and last but not the least the Special Jury Prize. Usually the deadline for submitting all the required documents is the month of January.
