Built in 1855 Cork Opera House is a theatre cum opera house in Cork in the Republic of Ireland. Though it was not destroyed completely but its existence has not been continuous. It has suffered much because of the War of Independence in 1920’s as because of Cork’s active participation in the war. Some portions of the Opera House were also burned down in its centenary year. But in order to keep the Opera Culture of Ireland alive it was rebuilt in 1963 and was opened to the public in the very same year. In the year 2003 the Opera House was again renovated to large extent. The Opera House has always housed far more than just live opera shows. This was again built with a purpose. The objective was to promote science, literature, fine arts and architectural knowledge. This Opera House was built under the complete guidance of the famous architect Sir John Benson.
