Galway Atlantaquaria, Galway is an important tourist attraction in Ireland. It is also termed as the National Aquarium of the country. It is beautifully situated on the Seafront Promenade of Salthill overlooking the Galway bay. About 170 marine and freshwater species have been collected in this Galway Atlantaquaria, Galway.

Some of the marine creatures kept there are seahorses, stingrays, seahorses, stingrays and sharks. Apart from the live creatures a mammoth skeleton of a Fin Whale has also been exhibited there to attract the curiosity and admiration of the visitors. There is one special feature attached to the Galway Atlantaquaria in Galway. It is the hand-on-experience through which the visitors can hold the starfish on their palms, help in feeding the hungry fish and explore the under water world in a lovely submarine.

Being the largest aquarium of the country, Galway Atlantaquaria, not only displays a varied range of marine creatures but it rears some of them right from their birth. This rearing section is called Aquaculture, where you can see young babies of Shark, Plaice, Brill, Pollack, Rockling, Sea Scorpions and Blenny.. These baby creatures are kept in shallow tanks and made familiar of the surroundings and feeding routines before they are sent to the deeper tanks of the main exhibition.

Galway Atlantaquaria’s other attractions include the Audio Visual Room, Harbour, Millpond, Irish Boats, Ocean Tanks, Ray Pool, Splash Pool, Stream, Submarine, Touch Pool and Weir and Wreck. During your visit to the aquarium if you get tired and want a few peaceful moments, head towards the Audio Visual Room where you will have wildlife films and stories playing throughout the day. Galway Atlantaquaria remains open between 9 am to 5 pm from Monday to Friday and between 9 am to 6 pm on weekends.

From the months of November to February, however, the routine does not remain the same because for essential tank maintenance the aquarium is closed on some Mondays and Tuesdays during these months. Admission prices for child, adult, students and family package vary. For food lovers and gift lovers there are a handful of restaurants and gift shops, as well. Visitors can go on a shopping spree exploring their favorite items in the Lighthouse Gift Shop. While to cater their need for food there are Arabica Coffee House and the Schooners on the Bay Restaurant.
