Things to do in Jericho are many and diverse. Jericho is popularly known as the “City of Palms”, and is a small city within the Palestinian Territories and Israeli-occupied West Bank. Jericho lies about 55 kilometers or 34 miles from Jerusalem. Things to do in Jericho include a visit to the main sightseeing attractions in and around Jericho.

Tell es-Sultan:
It is the large city mound, located some 2 kilometers north-west of the modern city center, over-looking the natural spring of Ein Sultan. As part of Things to do in Jericho, you can visit the Tell es-Sultan to view ruins of this ancient city.

Synagogue Mosaic Floor:
In between the Tel es-Sultan and Hisham’s Palace, there is a synagogue floor from the 6th Century. A nominal fee is charged to enter the Synagogue.

Hisham’s Palace:
The Palace is 2 kilometers north of modern Jericho city. It is a winter palace built by the Omayyad Caliph Hisham Ibn Abdul Malek, before being destroyed by an earthquake soon after its completion in 747 Century. This historical place contains royal buildings, a mosque, water fountains and spectacular mosaic floors.

Among the Jericho Things to do, tourists can arrange for a tour in the world’s longest cable-car to “Quruntul Mountain”. From the mountain, you will get stunning views of Jericho and the Jordan Valley. Look out for the Greek Orthodox monastery situated high in the rocks, over here.

Visit Tel Jericho, which lies 2.5 kilometers northwest of Jericho’s central square, opposite Elisa’s Spring. Here, the archaeologists have found the oldest traces of human settlement date from around 8000 BC. You will even find a shrine of the Mesolithic nomads, dating as far back as 8000 BC.
