Rosh Pinna, Safed had been among the first modern Jewish agricultural settlements in Palestine. In 1882 a group of Jews from Romania built a settlement, and called it Rosh Pinna, which means cornerstone after Psalm 118.22. In 1884, Baron Edmond de Rothschild made it the administrative center for his own holdings.
