This Italian poet is remembered primarily for his “Orlando Furioso”, published in its final version in the year 1532. Ariosto was the most celebrated narrative poet of the Italian Renaissance Period. Ludovico Ariosto was born in Reggio Emilia and was the son of Count Niccolò Ariosto. His family moved to Ferrara when he was only 10 years old. Initially he studied law from 1489 to1494, and started to study Latin and Greek language and literature under the tutelage of the humanist scholar Gregorio da Spoleto.

With the death of his father, Ariosto took care of family estates for some years. In the year1502, he was appointed the commander of the fort of Canossa. Later, he started writing poems and gradually became famous not only in Italy but across Europe. However, Ariosto never finished the sequel to his famous work, Cinque canti, which means Five Cantos. He died in his house at Ferrara on the month of July 6th in the year 1533. Ariosto's House in Ferrara is thus standing as a great literary site of all ages.
