Chiesa Collegiata is one of the places to be visited when you come to Catania. The Basilica of the Collegiata is situated on the way to Etna and is in close proximity to the University of Catania. The Chiesa Collegiata was built in the beginning of the 700 . This also suffered destruction like most parts of the city by the earthquake of 1693. There are two orders in façade and in the first order there are six columns in stone surmounted by one balustrade. In the nave there are frescoes of Giuseppe Sciuti .In the interior of Chiesa Collegiata there is a Latin cross and the nave is restricted by eight pillars.
Further down the navata is the altar where you will find the Immaculate one placed. This is well protected by a balustrade in marble where you will find the beautiful statue of the Madonna . In the apse of the navata is placed the greater altar which has the iconic figure of Madonna with Child. Inside the church which is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Catania there is a chorus which is provided with 36 stalls. On the cupola you will find beautiful frescoes of images of the Virgin Blessed soul Maria with angels.
