Museo Chiossone

Museo Chiossone,is the only museum in Genoa which is built in memory of the famous Italian painter Edoardo Chiossone. This Genoese celebrity had been prolific throughout his artistic career. The history of the Museum dates back to 1898. this famous museum of Italy was inaugurated by. King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy on the 30th October 1905. In 1948 Genoa Council proposed to build a suitable building to ensure the safety of these precious arts. In order to give a proper recognition and shelter the Museo Chiossone came to be known as the first public museum in Italy . An important feature of the museum is that it is built in the post-war period and it was also being financed by the public authority.

This fabulous building was built under the vigilant guidance of the architect Mario Laḅ. It took a long time to build this masterpiece. The tourists are impressed to see the Museum's location inside the Villetta Di Negro park. The museum is located in the green hilly garden which is close to the 19th century Piazza Corvetto. Although Museo Chiossone is located at the city center, yet it is located far away from the moribund city life. In Genoa tours you will rarely get a rich collection of Japanese art including paintings, polychrome prints, sculptures, porcelains, enamels, lacquers, arms and armor, bronzes, stage masks, musical instruments, costumes and fabrics, collected by Edoardo Chiossone. The visitors will also get to see some precious works by Harunobu, Utamaro, Hiroshige and Hokusai.

While visiting Museo Chiossone you can have a pleasant walk along the south-west side of the building, exploring the nearby churches, palaces and medieval towers, surrounded by the Ligurian Sea. As you enter the Museum, you will notice, that the structure is divided into two large rooms on the ground floor and five galleries. You will encounter the foyer in the ground floor as soon as you enter the place. All kinds of information and museum magazines are available from here. In the Main Hall. The visitors get mesmerized to see such a wide display of large Japanese bronze sculptures from the Edo Period.

In the First Gallery, the visitors can expect to find archaeological evidence and finds from Japanese, mirrors from China and Japan, materials of Buddhism and Buddhist cult, and also the equipment for war, hunting and riding like, helmets and masks, saddles and stirrups, swords, etc during the times when feudalism was at its apex level. As you move to the second gallery, you are sure to find some small wooden Buddhist statuettes, some work of art made by the artist Takeuchi Ch?bee. Museo Chiossone is one of the major attractions in Genoa displaying the male clothing accessories in carved wood and gold makie lacquer common during the 17th-19th centuries.

The Third and the Fourth Gallery has a good collection of like paintings on silk and paper, polychrome woodblock prints, textiles ,etc. The Fifth Gallery of Museo Chiossone displays twelve complete suits full of armor to the visitors. These war equipments are well preserved in six large glass cases jointed by wooden mannequins. With so much to know and many more to see, the visitors will have a filling time enriching themselves about the city.
