Filippo Lippi Frescoes are displayed in the choir of the Cathedral, Prato . These are products of constant endeavors of Filippo Lippi which were fashioned out intermittently between 1452 and 1466. The imposing choir and the painted subjects are indeed a visual treat. What is most impressive about Filippo Lippi Frescoes is that they have been produced when he was quite old. It was certainly
a physical challenge for the painter.
The amazing part are the huge scenes on either side of the choir which depict the story of St John the Baptist and St Stephen, though here due credit should be given to the workshop assistants as well. In the Prato Cathedral some of the noteworthy Filippo Lippi Frescoes are
St Luke the Evangelist c. 1454
St John the Evangelist c. 1454
St Stephen is Born and Replaced by Another Child 1452-65
Disputation in the Synagogue 1452-65
The Saint's Funeral 1460
Birth and Naming St John 1452-65
St John Taking Leave of his Parents 1452-65
Herod's Banquet 1452-65
The exquisite frescoes painted by Filippo Lippi with ample support from Frà Diamante from Terranuova, present an epic portrayal of figures. Then they reveal narration of the scenes coupled with scenic effects. Like in the right wall of the Cathedral in the lower part you will find one scene which depicts Salome's dance, the Baptist's beheading and the Presentation of John's head to Herodiad. Among the Filippo Lippi Frescoes you will find Our Lady who gives her belt to Saint Thomas on the glass window of the lunette.
