Jamaica is one of the Caribbean islands located in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. The country of Cuba lies north of it. The original people of the island nation, the Taino Indians, called it “Xaymaca”; which in Arawakan translates as ‘Land of Springs’ or ‘Land of Wood and Water’. When the Spaniards arrived, they named it “Santiago”. Finally after the British took over, country got back its original name with a significant distortion, and began to be called “Jamaica” instead of “Xaymaca”.
