The garden constitutes of landscapes, walking paths and inner garden spaces. There are several rooms near to the Upper Garden. The Middle Garden is decorated with lush green floral plants. The Shugakuin Imperial Villa, Kyoto preserves zelkova wood which are popularly;y known as the “Shelf of Mist” - a collection of paintings by the famous Japanese painter Kano Hidenobu. The paintings are made on the wooden panels. Thr garden gets divided into two pathways from the Chu Mon place; one leading towards a pond over a stone bridge and an island.
