Qasr Kharaneh, Jordan is one of the most important tourist destinations in Jordan. It is a beautiful structure and one of the famous desert castles. Jordan is famous world wide for its rock cut architecture. There are splendid examples of Islamic art that are scattered throughout the region. The many desert castles that dot the region served a wide variety of uses. These were used as residences by the rulers who came here to rest when they grew tired of the city life. They came here to relax and be rejuvenated. These also served as resting houses for the government officials. Some even feel that these were used by the rulers to improve their ties with the natives. Qasr Kharaneh, Jordan is one of the best desert castles in the region.

Qasr Kharaneh, Jordan is an imposing monument and is located at a distance of about 65 km to the east of the town of Amman. It is 18 km to the west of the Qusayr Amra. This is a very well preserved Ummayad structure in the country. There are a total of 61 rooms which are in two levels in the compound. There is a central courtyard as well. There are "bayts" or units in the structure. Each of the unit has a central hall. There are a couple of rooms on each side of the hall. There is a three-quarter round buttress which stand at each corner of the rooms. There are two- quarter round towers which are situated in the entrance to the south side. There are half-round buttresses which are there in the remaining sides.

The walls of the Qasr Kharaneh, Jordan have narrow openings which are used for ventilation and lighting. On each side of the long passage way there is a room that served the purpose of being a store room and a stable. There is a tank in the courtyard which collected water from the rains. More water was obtained from the seep holes that were there in the valley bed that was close to the structure. There are traces of Sassanian influences in the architecture. This is a must visit while you are on tours to the place.
