Jubayl was formerly called Byblos. Byblos used to be the Greek name of the city of Gebal which is presently called under the Arabic name as Jubayl. Jubayl is a Mediterranean city located in Mount Lebanon Governorate in Lebanon. The city has been honored as a World heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Byblos Castle is a lovely castle built in the 12 th century by the Crusaders. Limestone and the material ruins of Roman structures were used to built the castle. The castle is encircled by a moat. In 1188 Saladin invaded the city of Jubayl(Byblos) and the castle. On capturing it, he destroyed the walls of the castle. However, Byblos was recaptured by the Crusaders. Following that they rebuilt it in 1197.

Thde Byblos Fossil Museum is also called the Memory of Time. It is a treasure trove of artifacts and fossils of shrimps, eels, squids, flying fish and rays. The artifacts housed in the museum have been collected from the villages located close to Jubayl like Haquel, Ennammoura and Hjula. The museum stands in the city's old souk region.

The archaeological site of the city houses the ruins of the Temple of Baalat Gebal, Great Temple and the Temple of Obelisks. The Temple of Baalat Gebal was built in the year 2700 BC while the Temple of Obelisks was constructed in 1600 BC.
