Tsoelikana River and its oxbow lakes and rock pools feature aquatic vegetation. Sehlabathebe National Park in Qacha's Nek was established in 1951. The high-altitude, rocky slopes and outcrops above 2,000 meters dotted with boulders are home to Chaetops aurantius. The surrounding grassy slopes and plateau support the Anthus hoeschi, which breed in large numbers during the austral summer, especially above 3,000 meters.

Another extremely rare species in Lesotho, Podiceps cristatus can be found in the high-altitude tarns. Serinus symonsi is a common species above 1,500 meters and forages in the rank grasslands.
