Gamprin

Positioned at the elevation of 472 meters Gamprin, Liechtenstein is famous for the settlement of Bendern which is known as one of the oldest settlements in the region. In the southernmost corner at the base of Eschnerberg one can find the tiny but charming Gamprin, Liechtenstein. If we look at the etymology of the name Gamprin we will find that it derived the name from "campus Rheni". The strategic location of Gamprin has contributed for its popularity among all the tourist destinations in Liechtenstein.

This settlement dates back to thousands of years ago when the Romans started living in this place around 15 B.C. to ca 500 A.D. Bendern in the Middle Ages became prominent for many reasons but primarily for ecclesiastic reasons. According to historical records it is known that men from the "Liechtenstein Lower Country" took the vow of remaining loyal to the Prince of Liechtenstein for eternity in Bendern which is famous for the Church Hill. 16th March, 1699 became a red letter day in the history of Gamprin, Liechtenstein as this was the day when the men took the vow for eternity. Like all the other attractions in Liechtenstein this place too was largely dependant on agricultural produce.

However the rapid growth of industrialization added a new dimension to Gamprin, Liechtenstein. The parish of Bendern Hill grew from strength to strength and there was a whole new look for the Bendern Hill parish. Some of the places of attraction that you are will not want to miss during your tours in Gamprin are the Liechtenstein Institute, Bendern Church and the Grotto of Mary. The history of St Mary's Church dates back to 5th century and the early documents recorded note that the Church was built in 1045. It was recorded that the Church was part of the "cloister of Schanis".

When Sir Rudiger von Kimpach took charge of the charge he asked St Luzi to take over the religious congregation. Later till 1816 the "fathers of Praemonstratensis" conducted the Sunday Mass. It is known that the Liechtenstein Institute was primarily a stable where the monks and the fathers used to keep horses. Later the building came to be known as the governor's office.

After the refurbishment in 1998 the structure was fully converted into a full-fledged institute. The gable house which is located near the institute was converted into a monastery by St Luzi monks. The date of its establishment remains unknown but later the father of the parish used to stay in the building. Today the building is listed under the protected buildings.
