The mosque can hold up to 16,000 worshippers.
Formerly acknowledged as the 'Blue Mosque', the Sultan Slahauddin Abdul Aziz Shjah Mosque in Kuala Lumpur has the capability to house 24,000 worshippers at a time. It has the distinction of having the tallest minarets and the biggest dome of the town.
The three-level construction includes elements of Malay and Islamic architecture. The fully carpeted and air-conditioned prayer hall encompasses two points including the upper gallery kept for women worshippers. The second floor holds a spacious gallery and the ground floor is used for administrative office, library, conference rooms, lecture rooms and reception. Elaborate decorations with aluminum grills are the specific characteristic found on doorways, walls and windows. Later, these were balanced by blemished glass.
Inside the beautiful mosque, the main attraction is the decorative khat that is Arabic calligraphy on the internal arch of the dome. The calligraphy work of renowned Egyptian calligrapher Shiekh Abdel Moneim Mohamed Ali El Sharkawi is displayed in this dome.
