Wild life in Selangor is varied and plenty. It is particularly found in the jungle and marshy areas of the region. The most prominent reserve forest in Selangor is the Kuala Selangor Nature Park. It comprises of 497 acres of secondary forest. To spot the wildlife in this nature park one needs to have a guide. Once the tour is on one will come across land and sky brimming with life. Here one can spot several monitor lizards in plenty. More often than not one will come across a pretty white breasted king-fisher. One can also see a flock of herons taking rest. Silver leaf monkeys peer curiously from tree perches. On the way one can see cheeky long tailed macaques scurrying from tree to tree. One can also see storks, egrets and mudskippers. If one casts a look at the sky one can see several brahminy kites soaring above.
At least 156 migratory species of birds come to Selangor every year. These include shrikes, kingfishers, pond herons, bee-eaters, water cocks and a variety of waders. The rare Norman Greenshank and Mangrove Pitta can also be spotted here. Avid bird watchers will find this place a haven. Situated around the lake system is a number of little huts or hides and towers from where one can observe the different bird species - especially water birds and waders.
The long tailed macaques are quite a menace in the region. They can be found loitering around the forest area of Selangor. They often get a little too boisterous and if someone has food, they may approach without fear. Snakes of various kinds are also found in the forests of Selangor.
