The Marshall Islands, officially the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), is situated north of Nauru and Kiribati, east of the Federated States of Micronesia and south of the U.S. territory of Wake Island.   • Fish: More than 250 species of reef fish have been found in the Marshall Islands.
  • Birds: 70 species of birds have been identified of which 31 species are seabirds. Among them 15 species breed here.
  • Mammals: The Polynesian rat is the only species native to the RMI.
  • Reptiles: 7 species of lizards and 1 species of blind snake are found here.
  • Arthropods: Numerous species of insects, spiders and land crabs; coconut crabs are seen here.
  • Endangered Species: Blue whale, sperm whale, Micronesian pigeon, leatherback turtle, hawksbill turtle are found here.
