Ebeye

Ebeye is situated on a land mass of 80 acres in the Kwajalein Atoll in the Marshall Islands. It is the most populous island with a population of over 12,00 people. Ebeye is the Marshallese culture in the Ralik Chain of the archipelago. The crowded living condition with inadequate school system and scare clean water has given Ebeye the nickname of "Slum of the Pacific". This is due to the nearby affluence of the luxurious subsidized lifestyle of the Kwajalein island, where there is a major base for the United States Army installation.

But Ebeye has a vibrant, urban culture to it. Most of the residents living here came from the many small islands spread throughout the Kwajalein Atoll before 1950s. The atoll which is the largest island in the world has near to 99 islands which surrounds a massive lagoon. When the Kwajalein island was used as a support base for testing nuclear weapons at Bikini Atoll and Eniwetok Atoll, the residents of Marshall Islands were relocated to a small planned community on the Ebeye. They were further shifted to the present place and were provided with housing along with the incentive of work at the defense base. Presently, the people are allowed to return to their islands at the downtime of the range, but they are not allowed to build homes or maintain their lands.

Some of the people at Ebeye are refugees or descendants of refugees from the cataclysmic 15 megaton of Castle Bravo nuclear test which was held at Bikini Atoll on March 1, 1954. The Christian missionaries first arrived in the Marshall Islands and introduced the Latin script writing and orthographized the language of Marshall people.

Marshall Islands is a nation of aquamarine atolls and golden sandy islands, stretching out in the Central Pacific in two parallel chains. This chain resembles a twin stringed necklace of emerald in a golden chain. It is spread over a land area of 75000 square miles. The main Tourist Destinations in Marshall Islands are its pristine underwater wonder world, which is home to an exotic collection of colorful marine life.

The Tourist Destinations in Marshall Islands include the 1000 species of fish, 250 species of hard and soft coral, as well as a treasure trove of WWII relic.
