Majuro, the capital of the Marshall Islands is built on an atoll comprising of 64 islands and has a port, shopping district, hotels and an international airport. Most of the population lives on the D-U-D communities and the island of Depal-Uliga-Darit. The main business district is Uliga and one will find banking and tourism as important occupation.
The College of the Marshall islands, Assumption High School and Uliga Elementary School for learning English are found in Uliga. All the governmental offices are found in Delap. To the eastern point of Majuro Atoll one finds the capital building for the Marshall Islands. There are several large stores in Delap.
The residential area can be found in Darrit and there is a primary and a secondary school at this area. To 30 miles from D-U-D by road on the western end of the atoll, one comes across the community of Laura. This is a growing residential area and has a popular beach. The highest elevation point on the island is found in Laura at a height of 30 feet above sea level. The soil at laura is very fertile and has many farms. To the north end of Majuro in Rita, the Marshall Island High School are present.
The total land area of the atoll is only 3.75 sq miles and encloses a lagoon of area 113.92 sq miles. One of the main exports from Marshall Islands is Coconut oil. There are regular coconut shipments from the nearby smaller populated atolls which surround the area. A major tourist attraction is fishing and one finds underwater divers who come in droves. The main transportation hub for the Marshall Islands are Majuro and Kwajalein, for both air services and shipping. Majuro is more often used due to the military restriction on Kwajalein.
Like other atolls, Majuro has numerous land masses which help one to walk from the lagoon side to the ocean side in minutes. There are some points at the island where one can through object from one side to the other. Most of the roads from Delap to Laura are single two lane paved road having houses on both the sides.
