Elizabeth Ave is the main historical street of Curepipe, Mauritius. The recently refurbished colonial-style Hôtel de Ville functions as the town hall. The town hall has a stately garden where you'll find a statue of the fictitious lovers Paul and Virginie from Bernadin de St Pierre's novel of the same name published in 1788. To the west of the center of Curepipe, Mauritius are the famous botanical gardens, well kept and informal, with nature trails branching off of the main paths.
Just north of the gardens, there is the town’s biggest natural attraction, the Trou aux Cerfs crater. It's been extinct for ages, and the crater floor is now heavily wooded. A tarred road leads up to and around the rim to rest stops with beautiful views. You can visit this spot and let your soul reconnect with the unspoilt nature.
