Pamplemonsses Garden, Mauritius was created by Pierre Poivre in the year 1767 in the Estate of the French Governor Mahe de Labourdonnais. The Chateau of Pierre Poivre was built in this splendid landscaped garden and was known as 'Mon Plaisir' This chateau was constructed in the year 1735, and looks as splendid today as did was when it was built. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Mauritius and is visited by a number of tourists from all around the world. Pamplemonsses Garden, Mauritius has a collection of various aboriginal and exotic plants, including the giant Victoria Amazonica water lilies and several rare species of palm trees especially the unique talipot palm. The main highlight of this tree is that it flowers only once in sixty years and then dies. Java deers and Gazebos are also found here.

The garden was so named in order to honor the man who led this island to independence.
