The Mauritius Kestrel bird is one of the birds which were saved from complete extinction. In 1973, only 4 kestrels were found in the whole Mauritius. At that point of time, the Mauritius Kestrel was counted among the rarest bird f the world. The Mauritius Kestrel is still the rarest falcon in the world. Being listed as the endangered species, the Mauritius Kestrel is still under the constant supervision of the wildlife organizations in Mauritius.

Mauritian wildlife includes the rarest pigeon of the world known as the Pink Pigeon. A very tame and vulnerable bird, Pink Pigeon now counts up to 250 which declined to 15 to 20 in the year 1985. The Echo Parakeet, which is the rarest parrot of the world, is a part of Mauritian wildlife. In the early years of the last decade, the number of this bird dwindled to 20. Currently, their number has increased to 40. The Echo Parakeet is the only bird that is endemic to the country.
