Before 90s, people knew Mayans and Aztecs and the muralists like David Alfaro Siquerios, Diego Rivera and Jose Clemente Orozco as the contemporary artists of Mexico. But, with the increased travel of tourists to Mexico, and the interests shown to Mexican culture, there is an interest in the contemporary artists which has helped the artists to showcase there artist acumen.
The work is described as rebellious, colorful, energetic, cosmopolitan and patriotic and the there is an eclectic blend of styles and media. There is no particular movement among the contemporary artists, but they have many themes in common like poverty, pollution, corruption, as well as income disparity.
