The City of the Children is located 75 miles south of San Diego/Tijuana, the most heavily crossed border of the world. It is actually a home to destitute and rescued children and over the last 35 years of its operation, The City of the Children has gained an excellent reputation to establish itself as a great model of Christian care. It certainly deserves a visit among the Tourist Attractions in and around the Mexico City.
The City of the Children rescues children from conditions which are so utterly bleak and desolate that it becomes difficult to even imagine how overwhelming the situation of Mexico's homeless children is. Statistics have it that there are an estimated 40,000 homeless children living on the streets in Mexico City and there are only 60 small orphanages in the entire Baja with an average capacity of 40 each. The City of the Children in Mexico City has come forward to lend its helping hand to save these children from being lost into the abyss of darkness.
Most of these children were abandoned for some reason and they were placed in the home by the Baja Welfare Dept. The home works under the guiding principle of love and compassion which form the two cornerstones of the whole doctrine of Christianity. It all began in 1970 led by Earl Farmer and other concerned Christina people in California and today, it is a successful mission model of the Churches of Christ across America. The purpose at The City of the Children is to teach the gospel of the Lord to the orphan and deprived children of Mexico. And since the seventies, a total of 620 children and adults have become Christians with an additional 700 new Christians reached through the Baja Missions. The City of the Children provides the children with a roof under which they can live and an environment of love, care and education where they can grow happily.
The City of the Children works towards achieving the aim of bringing back love and happiness into the lives of these children through providing mission opportunities for visiting teams from the churches of Christ.
Take a trip to this wonderful place while you are on your Mexico City Tours.
