The Pyramids of Teotihuacán

One of the great sites to visit during your Mexico Tours is The Pyramids of Teotihuacán. The Pyramids of Teotihuacán reminds you of the rich history and culture of Mexico. The Pyramids of Teotihuacán consist of 2 main pyramids: Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon.

It is believed by the archeologists that to build both the Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon, there needed a great amount of participation by the Mayan people. This suggests that Teotihuacán was a metropolis with a stable and strong centralized authority.

Pyramid of the Sun: Among the Pyramids of Teotihuacán, the Pyramid of the Sun is the highest pyramid in Mesoamerica north of Maya. The base of the enormous Sun pyramid is same as the size of Cheops in Egypt. It is supposed that on the day the sun passes the zenith, the Teotihuacán's constructed this pyramid so that it is build directly in front of the monument.

Pyramid of the Moon: The Pyramid of the Moon is known for its beauty and charm. It is about 116 feet high and faces south with a view of the city. In front of the pyramid there is the Plaza of the Moon. It contains 12 platforms which surround about 4 acres of land. In the center of the Plaza, there is another platform which was used for pageantry and religious ceremonies and for burning of basin oils.

It must have taken years to complete The Pyramids of Teotihuacán, as the enormous size of the Pyramids suggests this. The scientists dug for many days, until they found out The Pyramids of Teotihuacán. The pyramid in which the scientists found out the burial room was named the Pyramid of the Moon. They called the other large pyramid in the city the Pyramid of the Sun. The scientists named each of these pyramids in this way, since each contain many images of these astral bodies.

The giant Pyramids of Teotihuacán are still a mystery, as the scientists have no idea who could have built them. In the 1500's, the Aztecs ruled a powerful empire that included Teotihuacán, but the city and its pyramids are much older than the Aztec Empire. The Pyramids of Teotihuacán were built more than 2 thousand years ago.

Inside The Pyramids of Teotihuacán in Mexico, scientists have discovered many skeletons that of humans as well as jaguars and the birds that may have been sacrificed along with the human beings.
