Museum of Stamps and Coins, Fontvieille is one of the famous museums in Fontvieille, Monaco. The Museum of Stamps and Coins, Fontvieille is one of the newest additions to the city, which opened its door for the public in 1996.
As the name suggests, the Museum of Stamps and Coins is exclusively dedicated to the stamp and coin displays. The main part of the displays at Museum of Stamps and Coins in Fontvieille includes the private collection of HSH Prince Rainier Ill.
The museum boasts of a modern look and houses two main display rooms which are specially laid out for the better viewing of the public. The documents which are exhibited in these rooms of the Museum of Stamps and Coins include hallmark proofs and color tests which date back to 1885.
The displays also include a copperplate rotary press which was used for printing Monegasque stamps. Offered by the Postal Administration of France, this technique was used for over 60 years and much can be learnt about it at the Museum of Stamps and Coins, Fontvieille.
The museum also houses a video which reflects the history of philately especially Monegasque. Information related to all the stages of creating the stamps inclusive of marketing techniques are provided here. There is a separate section which is dedicated to displays of coins and bank notes here. Commemorative medals are also demonstrated for the visitors at Museum of Stamps and Coins in Fontvieille. Most of these medals are from 1640.
Apart from displaying historic products, the collection also features a multimedia section where the coins and stamps are examined. The public can also participate in this process.
The museum also conducts museum tours in Fontvieille which lasts for an approximately an hour. The timings of Museum of Stamps and Coins at Fontvieille are changed according to the month of the year. Following are the timings of the museum:
October to June: 10:00am to 5:00pm
July to September: 10am to 6pm
