Feast of Saint John in Monaco




The Feast of Saint John in Monaco is one of the notable events in Monaco. Hundreds of locals and tourists across the world come to participate in the Feast of Saint John in Monaco. It is one of the most significant historical and religious Events in Monaco.

The procession of the Feast of Saint John Monaco starts from Monaco-Ville. The Feast finally ends in Monte-Carlo. The main attraction of the Feast of Saint John Monaco is the long and colorful procession. People usually gather at the Place des Moulins of Mills Square on this auspicious day. The Place des Moulins of Mills Square is the place where the old olive presses used to operate in the past.

All the gardens of Monaco are decorated beautifully on this special day. People in their best dresses gather in the Mill Square and greet each other. The traditional practice is to wear costumes of the past. They gather in small groups and engage in singing, dancing and playing. Large groups from France, Italy and Spain come to be a part of the Monegasques' Saint John festival.

The folk groups gather and form a guard of honor around "Little Saint John" and the little lamb. After this the procession marches towards the Church of St. Charles of Monte-Carlo. After reaching the site, people greet each other and engage in mirth and festivity.

The Palace chapel is dedicated to Saint John. On the day of Feast of Saint John Monaco the family of the Prince comes to the Palace chapel. He together with other family members and other notable dignitaries attend a ceremony. After the ceremony comes to an end two footmen belonging to the Sovereign's Household carry a burning torch. These torches are used to light a bonfire in the center of the Square. As soon as the ablaze is set people engage in merry making. They clap their hands, sing songs and dance.

After this the procession returns to the Place des Moulins. People sing the Monegasque national anthem on the Feast of Saint John in Monaco. In the night a grand feast and a ball dance party is arranged.
